Registration – At the reception counter, you fill up a form and answer some questions.
Medical Screening – You are weighed, your blood pressure is checked and your hemoglobin level is checked.
Blood donation – Sit back and relax during your donation.
1. Doners — It is not painful & is completely safe. Takes just 5 mins for donation
& another 10 mins for post donation rest & refreshment.
Only 350 to 450 ml is taken & body replenishes it within 24 Hrs.
2. Exceptions — Any healthy person between 18 and 60 can donate if SHe is
Not anemic / on medication / lactating / pregnant / menstruating /
high-risk group / underwent Surgery during last 3 months to 1 year
(depending upon the surgery) / had Malaria in last three months.
3. Expectations — Donors should not be empty stomach; consult Blood Bank doctor if in doubt.
4. Disposal — Donated blood is tested for HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis, Malaria etc.
5. Blood group and type are identified.
6. Card — Blood group card is mailed to the donor.
7. Cross match — Donor’s blood must match with that of the patient.
**You cannot get AIDS by donating blood.**
8. Blood Types — A, B, AB, O, RH+ and RH-.
Some rare types exist like Bombay phenotype.
95% of India is Rh+, 5% Rh-.
9. Receipants — victims of accidents, burns, surgeries, blood loss, shock,
newborn jaundice, etc.
